Best and Worst Dressed at the Emmys 2014

After the questionable outfits displayed during the VMA's, I breathe a sigh of relief as this television awards restores the balance in sophisticated fashion (almost).

Best Dressed

Sarah Hyland
I think blossomed is the most appropriate way to describe Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland who looked positively ravishing on the red carpet in her rouge cream combo. Accentuating her tiny waist yet maintaining a sense of comfort, this outfit was one of my favourites of the night.

Kristen Wiig
My favourite funnywoman Kristen Wiig always turns out well and the Emmys were no exception. She stunned in this ethereal silk dress with elegant side split, but ever the casual lover, she opted for a bob set in beachy waves.

Allison Williams
What's better than a dress with cascading tulle? NOTHING. This dress defines my belief in being brave about mixing up your colour palette. A black bow, pink bodes and nude skirt all wrapped but with a lemon belt is pretty much perfection to me.

Julia Roberts
Looking hot to trot, acting LEGEND Julia Roberts donned Elie Saab for the red carpet, which had rather inspiring bubble-like embellishments. Midnight blue suits you lady, stick with it!

Clare Danes
Rouge was very much the colour of the night and Clare Danes looked ADORABLE in her lace and brocade dress. A flora-inspired trim and a thin belt finished off her look perfectly, not to mention those sheer triangles in line with her waist that complimented her figure.

Worst Dressed

Zooey Deschanel
NO! I hoped to never put this lovely lady on this God-awful list but here she is (sad face). This fuchsia nightmare is far from what I expected of Miss Deschanel and where is your fringe? *hyperventilates* bring it back Zooey!

Lena Dunham
Poor Lena got criticised for this outfit so much. I have to say, I am a fan of the wild skirt but darling, that powder pink shirt looks like it came out of Grease. For that reason- BLEURGH.

Gwen Stefani
I was so bored by Stefani's outfit on the Emmy's red carpet. Looking like her hair was chemically straightened, she opted to wear her silver maxi dress on her hips. WHO DOES THAT ANYMORE? It's all about the high waist Gwenny.

Katherine Heigl
Gold is the colour of a winner, but a status I would never bestow on Katherine Heigl in THIS contraption. As silky as a pimp's duvet cover, I couldn't help but be disgusted by this outfit, sorry Heigl.

Amy Poehler
Again, get over the standard metallics, please? Amy Poehler's dress made her look way larger than she really is and if she was trying to achieve a 1920's Gatsby throwback, she was failing.

Best and Worst Dressed at the Met Gala 2014

Best Dressed
Emma Stone
Oh la la I am loving the cute colours Emma Stone stepped out in for the Gala red carpet. Her petunia and powder pink two piece matched her pastel make-up and she teamed the outfit with a sparkling rouge clutch and metallic stilettos.

Kim Kardashian
Hollywood glamour at it's best here as newly weds Kim Kardashian and Kanye West stepped out last night in a wonder ensemble. Kim's satin sapphire gown with generous split complimented her curves and she finished it off with side-swept loose curls- perfection.

Dita Von Teese
The Queen of vintage wowed us on the red carpet in this Zac Posen creation. The gargantuan fishtail looked as if it melted into the red carpet and a matching ruby clutch and deep red lipstick finished off her look.

Rihanna
Accompanied by designer Stella Mc Cartney, Rihanna donned a rather conservative number. The white, low slung two piece came with elegant padded shoulders, a high, embellished neckline and a messy up-do suited the star.

Blake Lively
Actress Blake Lively is looking super glamourous in Gucci! Those killer curves ooze classic Hollywood high fashion and the simple but chic shade suits her perfectly.

Cara Delevingne
Breaking the mould is something Cara Delevingne loves to do, and she demonstrated that rebel inside, wearing a Stella Mc Cartney two piece to the gala. Teaming a black banded crop top with brilliant white cigarette trousers, she sure made a statement.

Leighton Meester
Leighton Meester wore my favourite look of the night in Emilio Pucci. The deep plunge of the neckline complimented the side split and I was in awe of the sheer detail of the embellishments.

Rosie Huntingdon- Whiteley
Gold, animal print and leather. I was wowed by this Balmain mini dress model and actress Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley wore. Complete with gladiator-inspired heels and some seriously chunky hoops, she looked bad.ass.

Joan Smalls
Thank god someone has thought outside the box and moved away from the safe lipstick shades. Joan Smalls' violet rouge MADE her outfit, with the nude bandeau top-half of her gown becoming vague and flowing towards the bottom, it hugged her figure in all the right places. Bravo!

Nicole Richie
Kelly Osbourne could learn a thing or two from this lady. I loved the contrast of her violet hair with her partially velvet grey gown.

Worst Dressed

Taylor Swift
I feel like pale pink can look incredibly insipid and I really wasn't a fan of this Oscar de la renta piece Taylor Swift wore. More high school prom than anything on the edge side.

Sarah Jessica Parker
There should be a rule that a designer shouldn't etch their signature on a gown, this Oscar de la renta creation is one such example.

Solange Knowles
I respect the fact that Solange is one to experiment with looks, but I can't help feeling this Philip Lim dress was oddly cut in a particularly unattractive carrot shade.

Zoe Saldana
Although Saldana did look amazing on the red carpet, I wasn't a fan of the bottom half of her gown. The paisley-esque design was formed in balloon-like ruffles that appeared rather frumpy.

Naomi Campbell
Drag-queen alert. I hated this white, cheap looking cut-out gown and feathers look a bit '70s to me. Naomi Campbell needed to take a leaf out of Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn's fashion book.

Lupita Nyong'o
Dare I criticise Lupita's style? Everyone seems to love her, she can do no wrong. I just don't see the fuss, and if I would have known looking like a cross between a flapper and a  dream catcher is high fashion, I would have done it sooner.

Lena Dunham
Award for the worst cut dress goes to Lena Dunham's at this years gala. This is just grotesque. The cut makes her legs look big and her chest look flat. So unflattering.

Best and Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes 2014

Award season is well and truly here and last night the biggest and most beautiful stars were celebrating their talent in style at the Golden Globes. Let's take a look at the hits and misses on the red carpet.

Best Dressed

Emma Watson

What do you do when you can't make that painstaking choice between cigarette trousers and a deep red gown? You combine the two to create this stunning Dior ensemble English rose Emma Watson wore on the red carpet last night. Combining the look with slim midnight blue stilettos and a subtle low bun, the actress looked effortless.

Amy Adams

Red was definitely a shade I was lusting after last night as fiery-haired actress Amy Adams opted for the same foxy tone as Watson. The plunging V-neck in deep maroon that led into a vibrant rouge suited her fair complection however I would have loved to have seen her hair in some loose waves. Either way a stunning piece.

Emma Roberts

In the height of its third season, American Horror Story actress and the newly engaged Emma Roberts topped her current success by looking effortlessly chic in her LBD accompanied by intricate oversized turquoise earrings. Accentuating her features in all the right places and with scraped-back hair that allowed all eyes to be on that dress, I thought it was one of the most striking looks of the night.

Margot Robbie

Emerging Australian actress Margot Robbie can do no wrong lately as her pieces for The Wolf of Wall Street premieres measured up to this stunning white Gucci gown. Jewel embellishments around the waist and sleeves flattered her svelte figure and those cheeky emerald heels add a splash of colour to her ethereal look. Top marks Margot!

Jennifer Lawrence
This lady has had a fabulous few months in fashion with an immense amount of successful pieces she donned during the world tour promotion of The Hunger Games Catching Fire. The most anticipated star of the night didn't disappoint in Dior as she embraced monochrome in this prom dress-esque sleeveless piece. Her deep rouge and oceanic earrings brought a fabulous contrast and finished off her look perfectly. You can do no wrong J- Law.

Julie Bowen

Velvet has been in for quite a while on the high street, and I was wondering when it might infiltrate the red carpet. Bowen demonstrated the right way to wear the fabric with this simple two-tone dress complete with belt and puffed 80s-style sleeves. That plum bottom half is to die for.

Kate Beckinsale

I'm not usually a fan of the metallic, but this shining piece would make a magpie foam at the mouth. Beckinsale combined the dress with minimal accessories, a plain black clutch and a messy up do- less is definitely more.

Amelia Clarke
The name Proenza Schouler might not be as prominent as Dior and Oscar De La Renta when it comes to red carpet fashion, but I would note it down. The mini mosaic monochrome print on the dress incorporated translucent panelling and a sophisticated front split. Perfection.

Julianna Margulies

Black dresses are the easiest way to make an impact whilst looking effortlessly gorgeous, suitably demonstrated here by Margulies whose black floor length gown becomes encapsulating at the shoulders and foot of the dress where gold coral-esque embellishments spread and progress.

Amber Heard
Johnny Depp's newest beau made an Angelina-esque impact on the red carpet in this midnight blue silk Atelier dress. Her loose and volumous quiff with smokey eyes would make anyone swoon. Fabulous job Amber!

Worst Dressed

Tina Fey

Fey is never too far from my worst dressed list, and I thought this gown was up there as one of her most dire. Curvaceous figures are fabulous but accentuating them further as demonstrated below is anything but flattering. Pink is a dangerous colour and just doesn't work here.

Zoe Saldana

My relationship with partially sheer pieces went from a slight dislike to a clinical loathing after seeing this piece worn by Saldana last night. Baby pink and black are colours only seen in the likes of Ann Summers, and those off-shoulder straps give me palpitations. WHY!

Uma Thurman

Two pieces are increasingly popular in high fashion and even though we are often encouraged to experiment with varying prints, this dress is a perfect demonstration of a clothing calamity. Slate grey silk combined with a black 90s-style high neck makes for a puzzling composition.

Mila Kunis
I usually love Kunis' style but this Gucci piece looks as if it should have been thrown away with last year's tinsel. Let's just hope she won't go the same way as Miss Longoria, who is now beyond help when it comes to red carpet mishaps.

Aubrey Plaza
Oscar de la Renta's over-simplistic bridesmaid-esque piece worn by Aubrey Plaza did nothing for me. The putrid two-tone silky gown sat uncomfortably on Plaza's figure and her matching pink clutch and purple heels make me want to vom.

Zooey Deschanel
Oh dear maybe I'm just not into Oscar de la Renta because I was sorely disappointed with Zooey's inspid shade and style of her dress. The only redeeming element to her outfit were her intricately embellished shoes which look like they could cause potential damage if she kicked anyone.

Bernice Bejo

Bejo may have made an impact stepping out in this outfit last night, but in a lot of ways I wish she would have faded into the carpet. What looked like a sleeveless blazer with crustacean style embellishments clinging to it composed the top half of the piece with a tatty train that made up the bottom half. More tampon than trendsetting.

Jemima Kirke

Oh maybe Kirke thought the Golden Globes were hippie themed? The beach is the opposite way, love. A boho look is extremely desirable but donning a piece that looks as if it faded in the wash really isn't.

Lena Dunham
Wow, worst dressed of the night goes to this little lady who not only got the colour of her gown wrong, but shape too. The top half of the piece is wonderfully figure-hugging yet swamps her as it reaches into a fat fishtail. My eyes hurt.

Reese Witherspoon
Oh no Calvin Klein, I don't know about you but I would consider wearing this to the gym.. The halter neck and colour are perfect for a workout! Did someone pin Witherspoon down and chemically straighten her hair? The style doesn't suit her at all and I'm assuming those wispy bits at the front are some sort of fringe?

Best and Worst Dressed at the Emmys 2013

he Emmy awards represent the most important night for the television industry, and last night was no exception. The creme de la creme of the small screen turned out in Los Angeles for the 65th ceremony, where the notable Breaking Bad won Best Drama. Let's take a quick look at the red carpet action.

Best Dressed

Rose Byrne

Bridesmaids actress  Rose Byrne looked fabulous in this pale pink Calvin Klein creation. With her newly bleached blonde hair and sophisticated midriff cut-out, she looked super hot.

Sofia Vergara

WOW. How amazing does Sofia look in Vera Wang? Capturing her curvaceous figure in deep red, theModern Family star might have been wearing the same shade as the carpet she was standing on, but she certainly didn't blend in. Finishing her look off with loose curls and some chunky moss green earrings gave her a classic Hollywood image. Blown away.

Cat Deeley

Despite Cat Deeley looking ever so slightly out of it at the Emmys after party, I LOVE her black velvet midi dress, with chunky black and gold clutch.
            From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Tina Fey

Oh hey Tina Fey! this Narciso Rodrigue piece accentuates the actress' curves perfectly and I love that she went for striking colbalt. I thought her hair could have been improved with pin curls but thumbs up Miss Fey!
                   From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Vera Farmiga

Elegant is not the word. Vera Farmiga blew me away last night with this floor length sheer and velvet gown with grill-metallic chunky belt. She finishes off her vampish look with a punk quiff, but keeps it super feminine with light make-up. Perfect.
                 From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Leslie Mann

The timeless Leslie Mann kept to trend in this monchrome creation. Simple and chic, she can do no wrong!
               From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Lena Headey

Although I am slightly fussy when it comes to sheer pieces, this one worn by Lena Headey caught my eye. I love that the print is an unconventional snakeskin and that the split although high, was subtle.
              From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Kelly Osbourne

Red was definitely a colour that shone last night and I loved the cut of Kelly Osbourne's rouge Grecian gown. Embellished shoulders, a mini clutch and V neckline finish off her look perfectly.
               From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Kate Mara

American Horror Story star Kate Mara looks fabulous in white. Sheer panelling with a crotchet print, gelled back hair and some part-transparent wedges make for a super chic look.

Worst Dressed

Lena Dunham

Oh wow. I'm wishing I bought this dress for Benicassim, because it's definitely bigger than the TENT I stayed in. This awful creation has an inconsistent floral print that had the potential to be beautiful, but was thwarted by the terrible cut, length and the harsh black-lined finish.
                From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Zooey Deschanel

I was really disappointed to see the usually quirky actress Zooey Deschanel in this putrid light blue piece with a bizarre ruffle collection at waist. Eww
            From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Zosia Mamet

Looks like those Girls stars need to switch up their stylists fast. Tie dye is very much suited to t-shirts Zosia and what is this leather half-bra contraption to the front of the piece?! I am baffled.
                    From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Heidi Klum

High collars are definitely a thing this season, but sequins and shoulder cut-outs really aren't. Klum's figure looks wonderful, but her collar looks as if it's the only thing holding her head to her body. Bizarre.
                  From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Emily Deschanel

Drab central at the Deschanel household as Zooey's sister also opts for an inspid shade. The lace is extremely cheap looking, the one shoulder look is very much dead Emily, sorry.
              From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Anna Faris

OH EMM GEEE my eyes hurt. There is yellow, and there is this. Words escape me as to how bad this really is. At least her bleached peroxide hair looks good right? oh wait...
            From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Amy Poehler

Poehler may think she is a bit of a comedian, but there really is nothing remarkable or funny about her outfit. Perhaps she just wanted to avoid being made fun out of, so decided to cover up? Boring boring boring. Oh, and your jokes are old.
             From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Allison Williams

Allison Williams' dress belongs in my worst dressed section due to the fact that her dress simply looks unfinished. The cut is too basic, her hair and accessories are unremarkable and I was genuinely underwhelmed. Sorry Allison!
