Best and Worst Dressed at the Toronto Film Festival 2013

The Toronto Film Festival or TIFF, held annually in September has drawn a lot of attention this year for it's admirable displays of fashion. Here is my pick of the best and worst dressed A-list bunch.

Best Dressed

Keira Knightley

English rose Keira Knightley stunned in two ways at the Toronto Film Festival this week. She demonstrated her amazing vocal skills in new film Can A Song Save Your Life and she also stepped onto the red carpet in this enchanting piece. I love the rush of purple in this complimenting midi dress and the intricate detail is stunning.

Kristen Wiig

The beautiful Kristen Wiig had my favourite outfit of the bunch as she embraced the monochrome in this intricate black cut-out shirt and Aztec print shorts. Her simple black heels and messy updo complete the outfit perfectly, and she looks so comfy- bonus!
                 From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Julia Roberts

How CUTE is Julia Roberts in Dolce and Gabbana? I love the subtle baroque-style print on the dress and the sleeves look relaxed. Nude heels and a wonderfully loose up do (like Wiig's ) is definitely popular right now.
                 From fashionbombdaily.com

Felicity Jones

Chic is not the word. Felicity Jones embodies the word sophisticated in this midnight blue Dior gown. Sleeked back hair with classical charcoal make-up compliment her face and I love her skinny stilettos. Effortless.
                     From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Marion Cotillard

Miss Cotillard always looks amazing as she demonstrated in Cannes earlier this year and despite a majority of her outfits being on the plain side, I thought this robe-esque piece looked sleek. My favourite element of this outfit however are her shoes. Who knew dogstooth and peachy shades went together? I love how off set the straps are too. Go girl.
                      From www.becauseiamfabulous.com

Emilia Clarke

WOWZA. This dress oozes summer. How fruity does Emilia Clarke look in this  off-shoulder mustard frock with slight v-plunge? Her dramatic lip colour is breath-taking and slicking that hair back means that nothing detracts from that wonderful dress.
                From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Saoirse Ronan

I actually loved the visuals that Ronan's dress provided on the red carpet and I definitely think she has nailed a more gothic look with the deep and light purple with a plum matte lip colour. Although I am not a fan of the nude panel on her shoes, I think the outfit is highly unusual and I applaud her for stepping out of the box!
                   From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Worst Dressed

Juliette Lewis

NO no no! This Wes Gordan disaster does nothing for actress and singer Juliette Lewis. It is too tight around the tummy and she looks incredibly uncomfortable.

Jessica Chastain

Although I think Jessica Chastain is a fabulous actress, she needs to get a different stylist. Her choice of colours are bizarre against her complection and this baby blue with lace trimmings is no different.  Perhaps opt for a more striking as oppose to inspid colour next time?
                   From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Daniel Radcliffe

Lordy. What have we here? a disaster if I ever saw one. It seems Daniel Radcliffe's checked shirt has inner checks making it extremely busy, and rolling up the sleeves makes his look far too casual. Whoever told this boy that electric blue trousers are acceptable, needs to be told otherwise. My eyes hurt.
                       From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Naomie Harris

Sometimes a gown looks more endearing when it is rough around the edges, but Naomie's looks as if a dog has been hacking at it for some time now. Her lip and nail colour may be bang on, but this dress is a no go.

Elizabeth Olsen

Saved the worst for last here as it seems Elizabeth olsen opted for a 60s carpet look. I'm pretty sure there is a slim figure hiding underneath all that material, but the shapelessness of the dress gives nothing away. Awful colour, awful structure, awful piece

Best and Worst Dressed at the GQ Awards 2013

Last night made way for the 2013 GQ Awards in London with all manner of celebrity folk turning out to celebrate this year's talented musicians, comedians, fashion icons and TV personalities. From  Michael Douglas to Tom Ford, the array of stars meant a wonderful variety of fashion. Here is my summary of the best and worst dressed of the night.

Best Dressed

Emma Watson

I love it when stars go edgy, and it seems Emma Watson went all Kristen Stewart on us and opted for a Balenciaga piece. The monochrome is bang on trend and I love how effective her minimal make-up is. She is definitely a natural beauty, love her.
                   From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Suki Waterhouse

Metallics are timeless as Bradley Cooper's girlfriend Suki Waterhouse demonstrated last night. The deep V plunge neckline made way for a striking silver belt and the floor-length cut makes it super sophisticated. Thumbs up!
                      From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Eddie Redmayne

Tartan is well and truly in this season and I was very excited when I saw Eddie Redmayne with this striking suit. Dapper is not the word! I also love the subtle checks of his skinny tie.
                From i4.mirror.co.uk

Rita Ora

Etro might be a lesser known label, but it definitely knows how to stand out on the red carpet. Rita Ora's floor length cut-out gown in yellow and jet looked fabulous on her, and I love how mesmerising the piece is. Stick on some spiral earrings and BAM, best look of the night.
                 From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Daisy Lowe

Wowzas, Daisy Lowe opted for some sexy Saint Laurent last night- a dress which didn't leave much to the imagination. Even though I think deep V's and side splits should be an either/or option, I loved the sheer sleeves, the way the gown complimented her complection and her brilliant use of reds in her rouge, shoes and nail polish.
                From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Douglas Booth

I love a bit of velvet and was thrilled to see some navy on the red carpet last night. Douglas Booth looks suitably handsome and I am looking forward to seeing him play Romeo in the upcoming Shakespeare movie. Lose that facial hair though...
                From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Jourdan Dunn

Woahh last night was definitely the night of plunging necklines as British model Jourdan Dunn dazzled in this cream embellished dress. Although the piece shows slightly too much chest for me, I love the long sleeves and the intricate design as well as her swept back hair- bang on trend.

Worst Dressed:

Alexa Chung

Someone clearly likes to wrap themselves in tin foil: Alexa Chung made a wrong move in this Carven piece which looks like it needs a good iron. Loving the rouge and Chanel clutch though.
                 From cdni.condenast.co.uk]

Pixie Lott

No no no! I am really not a fan of Pixie Lott's pink and cream dress with rose netting. Her '60s quiff has been done too many times before i'm afraid.
                 From cdni.condenast.co.uk#

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

One word: boring. This white PVC Versace dress is just too simple. I know you are on a break from Jason Stratham, but can't you at least make a little bit of effort. Meowww
              From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Miles Kane

The shade of cream really doesn't sit well with me, so seeing Miles Kane kitted out in this god-awful suit gave me the shivers. Take it offfff
               From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Ellie Goulding

A double whammy of frightful frocks here for Ellie Goulding as she seemed to take a fashion swerve from her usual sophisticated and striking looks. The feather piece on the left is especially awful. Pass me the sick bag.

Helen Lasichanh

Pharell William's wife might have embraced the monochrome look, but the bizarre crepe paper-inspired embellishments do nothing to the piece, I do love her over sized necklace though.
                  From cdni.condenast.co.uk

Sophie Dahl

D&G failed with this piece which has lace overkill written all over it. In what universe does a leopard skin clutch go with this outfit? Go home Sophie.

My Weird Celebrity Crushes

In the pristine world of Hollywood, it's pretty hard to find too many flaws in those celebrity folk we see on our screens almost every day. But there are a few (mostly male) exceptions to the rule who although talented in their professions, lack those chiselled  features and drop dead frankly swoon-worthy appearances. Nevertheless, everyone has their weird celebrity crushes, and here are mine. Feel free to embarrass yourself by telling me yours below. I'm all ears.

Simon Pegg

Cringing AND swooning at the same time is very hard, but I have to say Simon Pegg made my list of weird celebrity crushes for this reason, especially for his role in Hot Fuzz. His fence hopping ability is faultless and his dry humour is something I love.

Jonah Hill

*covers face* YEAH that's right, Jonah Hill, the actor who played Seth in Superbad. I want to be specific here- I crush on him when he isn't a complete whale. He has an awful habit of yo-yoing with his weight which is a tad unattractive, but he has to be the funniest man in comedy at the moment. LOVE HIM.

Matt Smith

I guess if you are trying to be nice, you would say Matt Smith's aura is of a quirky vibe, but in all honesty he is plain weird looking. His goofy but intelligent role in Doctor Who totally charmed me though, and that's why he makes it onto my list. Who doesn't love a guy in a dickie bow?

Micheal Cera

Ahhh CRINGE. Just when you thought this list couldn't get any worse, another member of the Superbad cast pops up. Yeah I do like a bit of awkwardness and Cera has a tonne full of that reserved for his roles. He is a geekish caricature personified, but his hilariousness means you can (kind of) ignore his weird looks.
                      From www.vanityfair.com

Shia LaBeouf

The last gentleman on my list is Even Stevens star Shia LaBeouf who made his career starring in Transformers. His clumsy nature is pretty irritating but the fact that he has a cool car is a redeemable feature I suppose. His facial feature often goes WAY too far sometimes. UGH.

Venice Film Festival: Best and Worst Dressed Days One and Two

The Venice Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday with an opening ceremony before the premiere of Gravity in 3D, starring the ever-desirable George Clooney and actress and producer Sandra Bullock. Day two was dominated by women as the Italian picture Via Castellana Bandiera was screened, which stars a wholly female cast. Australian production Tracks was also showcased; the true story of Robyn Davidson's 200km journey across the Australian desert. Let's take a look at the fashion from the first two days.

Best Dressed:

Natalia Borges

Model and face of Garnier Fructis Natalia Borges had the best outfit of the night as she combined two of my favourite things: clashing prints and leather. I was in awe of this Fausto Puglisi creation, which combines monochrome with plaid and a leather top. Combining it with chunky, multiple-buckle heels and an over sized ruby Shorouk necklace made for the perfect look. Blown away!

Carey Mulligan

English rose Carey Mulligan looked super sophisticated in Miu Miu yesterday. I love the navy colour, the cut is modest and the collar gives a cute element. She jazzed up an otherwise plain look by donning quirky sunglasses. Go girl.

Francesca Cavallin

Two things are perfect about this outfit: the sheer element, as it carries the piece, and the colour is exquisite too. We really don't see enough shades of purple on the red carpet and I was very excited when Italian actress Cavallin stepped out in this Barbara Casasola creation. The two-tone element makes it truly unique and the long sleeves are extremely flattering.
                 From img1.amando.itFrom img1.amando.it

Michelle Dockery

I love that both Michelle Dockery and Carey Mulligan don't need a drop of fake bake to look amazing- it's a breath of fresh air to see a natural look in Hollywood. The Downton star wore a bright rouge Miu Miu mini dress. Simple, but completely complimenting, I love her sleek bob and simple clutch with black heels.

Fiammetta Cicogna

I can't explain how much I love this shade of green on Cicogna's floaty gown. The loose fit made the dress positively Grecian and her simple stilettos and side plait meant nothing detracted from her fabulous dress.

Sandra Bullock

American star Sandra Bullock went colourful in this Alex Perry piece for the first day photocall. The fruitsalad shades are striking and totally flattering, and I always respect those who feel comfortable moving away from the monochrome trend.

Worst Dressed:

Marina Ripa di Meana

The Gravity premiere definitely got more exciting when Marina Ripa di Meana strolled in. WHY oh WHY does she have a bird cage on her head?! no words. This is god-awful, possibly the worst dressed person EVER.

Eva Riccobono

This piece might be an Armani Prive, but it definitely resembles a giant doily. Riccobono wore the dress for a photocall, but it might as well have been a wedding shoot. EW.

Mia Wasikowska

Reserved actress Mia Wasikowska disappointed me in this painfully simple Nina Ricci fishtail gown. The neckline is unflattering and her up do does nothing for her face, sorry Mia!

Ksenia Rappoport

Again, the simplicity of this dress is why I put Rappoport's dress on the worst dressed list. The midnight blue is too safe, and definitely a colour that has been worn out on the red carpet. I am not a fan of strapless dresses either- they give the impression that the gown is slipping down.
